The Ice and Vladimir Sorokin to visit Dresden

The Hellerau of Dresden will host the German premiere of the Proton Theater’s production The Ice. Joining them on this special occasion will be Vladimir Sorokin, the author of the 2003 novel of the same title upon which it was based, for a reading in the original Russian.

"Sorokin’s novel The Ice is essential literary material. It proposes that all ideologies can be positive and negative at the same time, depending on who is using them and who owns them. This is a perfect metaphor for all political and religious doctrines, and how they function. It is a metaphor, like Richard Wagner’s Ring." - said Kornél Mundruczó, director of the production.

The 89/19 - Vorher/Nacher (Before/After) Festival will be held in Hellerau from 24 October to 2 November, 2019 to analyse the years that have gone by since the fall of the Berlin Wall, focusing on the processing of the past, exploring the present and dealing with the themes of visions of the future from an artistic perspective in times burdened by social transformation and reorganisation. The Ice will be performed twice, on 1 and 2 November.
