The Seven Deadly Sins / Motherland - premier at the Theater Freiburg

Theater Freiburg managing director Peter Carp has invited Kornél Mundruczó to stage a performance of The Seven Deadly Sins. This collaboration between the intendant and the director began back in 2012 in Oberhausen with the production of Pleasant Days. In 2016, Theater Oberhausen served as co-production partner for Proton Theater’s performance entitled Imitation of life. Moreover, the German premiere also took place in Oberhausen.

The protagonist of The Seven Deadly Sins, Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s 1933 work, wanders through seven cities for seven years. During her journey, she is tempted by each of the seven deadly sins. Yet, in order to return she must cope with all of them. Kornél Mundruczó combines the piece, which focuses on capitalist exploitation and the exercise of power, with Motherland by Kata Wéber, where the theme of the Brecht piece is presented through the story of a modern family - a single mother and her daughter.

This co-production with the Proton Theater will be performed on eight occasions throughout the summer at the Theater Freiburg. The dates are: July 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th 2020.
