The Raft of the Medusa - premiere at the Ruhrtriennale
The Raft of the Medusa, an oratory by Hans Werner Henze, was inspired by Théodore Géricault's famous painting by the same name from 1819. The classical music piece will this time be performed by the worldwide known Bochumer Symphoniker, and Germany's leading choir, the Chorwerk Ruhr, together with the Zürcher Sing-Akademie and the Knabenchor der Chorakademie Dortmund, lead by Steven Sloane, the Henze specialist American conductor.
Directed by Kornél Mundruczó, this installation of the Proton Theatre aims to tell the story of The Raft of the Medusa – one that is universally valid and spans different eras – from a unique perspective. The piece will be shown at the Ruhrtriennale three times on August 31st and on September 1st and 2nd.
