Kornél Mundruczó is the first Hungarian director to receive the prestigious Austrian theatre award for a Hungarian production, Mundruczó and Proton Theatre being the first Hungarian awardees in their category. It is a huge recognition for both the director and his company. The Nestroy Prize has been awarded annually in 14 categories since 2000. The award ceremony took place at the Volkstheater in Vienna, on 24th November 2024.

Proton Theatre’s latest performance premiered in May 2024 at the Wiener Festwochen, where the company participated for the seventh time. Following three and a half years of financial preparations and without support from Hungary, Parallax, directed by Kornél Mundruczó, was produced as an international coproduction by eleven festivals and theatres.
