At the end of 2020 we thought, wow, that was a tough year. Several of our plans collapsed, and, sadly, we were forced to cancel both performances in Hungary and tours abroad. We were looking forward to the new year with so much hope, only to have to cancel our plans again. But we're back again, fingers crossed, and preparing for the months ahead.
It's almost unbelievable, but somehow we did manage
• to stage our premiere in the summer [Gábor Reisz’s I AM SERIOUSLY LUDICROUS]
• and were able to tour abroad [HARD TO BE A GOD, IMITATION OF LIFE]
• as well as in Hungary [IMITATION OF LIFE, FRANKENSTEIN-PROJECT]
• after celebrating a jubilee run with packed houses, we said goodbye to [HARD TO BE A GOD].
We’re still keeping our fingers crossed, this time for Franz Schubert, János Szemenyei and Károly Mocsári, as we prepare two special WINTERREISE performances.
Kornél Mundruczó's production of Schubert's song cycle combines elements of theatre, film and a concert performance, with music that is still relevant today after two centuries. This production of WINTERREISE – with Szemenyei supplying the voice and dramatic acting accompanied by Mocsári on piano – has so far only been performed in Hungary at the FILC - Fischer Iván’s Apartment Theatre. On 12 November, we will recreate this special, intimate atmosphere at Trafó: so intimate that the audience will be on the stage along with them, just to entice you.
It's no secret that the city of Gyula is a place very close to our hearts, so the second performance of WINTERREISE – and Proton’s first performance for the new year – will be held on 15 February, on the Gyula Castle Theatre's Studio Stage.
