Evolution - premiere at Ruhrtriennale
This production based on György Ligeti’s Requiem presents the story of three generations of a single family. The composer chose only those elements of the classical form of the requiem that represent grief and anger. Kornél Mundruczó’s staging analyses the theme of repetition. Just like Sören Kierkegaard, Mundruczó does not consider this to be a form of recollection, but rather a way of thinking that deals with the past while still moving forward. Therefore, the production focuses on all three timelines – past, present and future – simultaneously.
This world premiere created by the Proton Theatre lies on the boundary between the genres of concert and theatre. Taking the helm of the Latvian State Choir and the Bochum Symphony Orchestra to conduct the classical music will be Steven Sloane, for six performances at the Ruhrtrienniale: on the 5th, 7th, 8th, 12th, 13th and 14th of September 2019.
