Two cultural portals have listed Imitation of life among the best theatre productions of the last decade.

Last year, KULTer.hu chose Imitation of life as one of the ten most memorable independent theatre productions of the '00s: 

"Proton Theatre completely exceeded what Hungarian theatre in general can and dares to do; something that would never have had a chance to happen here without the international partners that they fortunately have. Kornél Mundruczó, who in his theatre and film pieces approaches the sore and festering wounds of contemporary Central and Eastern European society without the benefit of morphine, once again explores what lies below. I can't argue with his diagnosis: voices crying out from the depths die powerlessly and fall into nothingness, because the system in place higher up hears only those it wants to hear. And this is true even when the world is turned upside down."

In its selection of featured shows this year, Hungarian arts journal Könyves Magazin expands its range beyond independent theatre to pick out the best productions for the decade in any category:

"There are two main reasons why this show should be on the list. One is Márton Ágh's set (which we also spotted in the film Jupiter's Moon) and everything that this incredible scenic element can do. Although we'd like to, we won't describe exactly what happens. The good news, though, is that everyone can see it for themselves [at Trafó]. The other important moment in theatre history is the first half hour of the performance, in which we see Lili Monori as the Gypsy woman in a close-up on a huge screen. What happens here goes beyond acting: it is magic that should be taught."
