Triennale Milano Teatro was founded in 1923 and has been organised every three years since 1930. During the period between 2021 and 2024 it has been focusing on works that deal with the most important issues of our times. Besides being a guest, Proton Theatre was also the face of the two-month-long programmes series in 2022.
Past and present interact in Kornél Mundruczó’s production as they reinterpret Schubert’s lonely wanderer. Actor-singer János Szemenyei – accompanied by pianist Károly Mocsári – impersonates both Schubert’s wanderer and the modern age refugee. The set, designed by Dóra Büki, preserves the intimacy of the performance and brings the audience into an almost tangible proximity. The set, and János in it, offer a moving experience of loneliness, uncertainty, and futurelessness.
The new set and concept, which made its debut in Milan, will be performed in Hungary on the 7th and 10th February 2024 at the Latinovits Theatre in Budaörs.
